This school has spirit.....NOT (in Borat's voice)

IPFW Sports are division one. Division one is the top dog when it comes to college sports. When you get recruited to play for a college and you want to be on the best of the best teams, typically someone chooses a division one school to play for. The reason for the different divisions is typically built around whether or not the school is public or private, and goes by attendance. Because IPFW has around 16,000 + students, we made the cut off for being division one. For being a division one school, we really lack in quite a few areas. Sure maybe there are a lot of recruits from other states and even countries, but does that really give us an advantage? IPFW recruits from many areas outside of the country, some being Brazil, Australia, Spain, Germany, and even the Bahamas. These are only a few to name some.

We may have what it takes to be a wonderful program for athletics, but our school doesn't show the spirit. We watch live games on ESPN of Purdue and IU basketball, and the student sections are absolutely swamped with school spirit and pride. But then we go down to our good old memorial coliseum for a basketball game or two, and there's less than 50 students attending. Man, I can only imagine how it would feel to be on a sports team, and not have any school support. While school spirit used to be a lot greater than it is today, things do change over time. Back when our men's volleyball team made was number 1 in the midwest, then climbed to second in the nation, the school spirit was defiantly on target. Why would our school want to miss out on IPFW history.

Is there a reason why our sporting teams are slightly slacking in the winning department? Do they need to take after Charlie Sheen in-order to bring home some W's, or maybe it's a quick fix...bring in some spirit fingers and slap on some blue and white paint, and cheer for the team that we can call our own. Who knows maybe its all in the hands of the players (who may not be as good as previous years) but hey they are still trying their best, and certainly attempting to make the most of their full-ride scholarship money. I mean if I could live in America for 4 years all expenses paid towards school, I'd want to prove that I can win a game or two in the sport that I excel in. I also think it would help if there was some student action.

Maybe if there were to be some free food, we'd actually have a full blown student section at all sporting events, heck lets just throw in some free money too while were at it.

La La La Life

Well nothing too excited happened in the real world house this weekend. But now we've got spring fever, and we've began to clean the house...or should I say hired someone to clean the house. It is rather unfortunate that we have to spend money on someone to clean the house, but I guess if no one's going to do it, might as well split the cost and fork out ten dollars. When you live in a house full of full time college students who are men, you kind of pray that someone can magically come and clean your house.

So as I'm writing this blog, I begin to realize how privileged I am to be able to go to school, even if it is in the same town as me. I watch way too much reality TV, and I am constantly watching shows on MTV that are rather corruptive, but it makes me realize how good of a person I am, and how much I have going for myself. I always wanted to be on a reality show, but sometimes that can really change your world in a negative manner. Look at the people of Jersey Shore, they aren't bad people by any means, but they submit themselves to looking rather foolish, but I guess 100,000 dollars an episode will buy you anything.

If some of us college students had the opportunity to drop out of school, or take some time off to be apart of a reality show, what would the percentile be? I mean it sounds like the total package, instant fame, money, and possibly a career path built for you for the rest of your life, without the whole college degree. To me it sounds very tempting..what about you?

The Real World: Fort Wayne

So let's just say this previous weekend...was very eventful on my part.. or should I say my roommates? Who would have ever thought that I would have the actual live version of MTV's The Real World in my own house? Well, when I moved in here a year ago, I wasn't expecting an episode quite like this one. For the sake of their precious identities I will provide false names during the explanation of this story.

For me a typical weekend consists of working. I usually get up around 630 on Saturday mornings, and 730 on Sundays (yes i know my life sucks) anyways, it has become a regular occurrence lately that my roommates, who come home from the bars/clubs on Friday and Saturday nights, decide it's okay to make as much noise as possible while the princess is sleeping. Once the noise begins, I'm awake along with my dog, who was peacefully sleeping as well. Well this past weekend was on a completely different level of noise disruption. Around 4 AM on sunday morning, I was abruptly awoken to the loud banging noises that were occurring in my kitchen. At first I thought it was the typical wrestling of these drunken idiots, but the noises and voices became louder, and Patrick (my dog) sure wasn't having it, due to his extreme barking. I went downstairs to discover my roommate George was stripped down to just his pants, and had this look of complete craze in his eyes as he was destroying the entire kitchen by slamming the kitchen chairs to pieces on the ground, oh and along with the kitchen table. Of course I panicked because I had no IDEA what was going on, but the other guys were trying to get him to stop, in between laughter. To me this wasn't funny at all which automatically began my loud yelling to stop what they were doing, and call my boyfriend who wasn't home yet. Finally the commotion stopped, and the true story behind George's mental breakdown began with this: Loo and Fred decided it would be funny to awaken their extremely intoxicated friend/roommate by smearing a jelly doughnut on his face, along with putting toothpaste in his hair. Might I add the jelly in this doughnut was burning hot because they figured it would be more practical if they heated it up in the microwave for 2 minutes. Where they got this jelly doughnut is still a mystery to me. Quickly after these games began, Fred and George fell to the ground in a brawl, and soon enough there were holes in the wall, doughnuts and cake everywhere, along with broken kitchen furniture, and a pool table flipped over in the middle of the living room. While this brawl was going on, Loo thought it would be extra funny if he pulled down George's pants while George was attacking Fred, and shove cake up his butt. Don't ask me, but I would probably go mentally crazy as well if someone pulled that fast one on me. The cake up the butt was the last straw for George. And soon enough Loo, George, Fred, and a non-roommate instigator Richard, were screaming and punching eachother non-stop. Thank god it ended before I almost called the police on my own darn roommates. My boyfriend quickly got home, along with my other roommate after I called him in distress. I don't know how they did it but Loo,Fred, George, and Richard had everything cleaned up before my boyfriend and Spiderman got home. If you would have seen the aftermath of this fight, you would have thought a homeless person died in my own house. Yet everything was cleaned up, and then began the scolding of my boyfriend to his fellow roommates about how they needed to grow up, and at this point it was almost 6 in the morning, and I was really tired. For some reason these drunken idiots made up quickly and decided to take a nice trip to McDonalds for breakfast, at 615 in the morning. I will never forget this night, and I can assure myself that if this behavior keeps continuing, I won't be living here anymore. Oh did I mention they also broke a friends 2000 dollar watch? Each of them are planning on splitting the cost of all the damage which will probably estimate to about 500 per person. The moral of this story is don't move in with a bunch of crazy idiots.

I wonder if I'm the only person at IPFW who has to deal with this madness..everyweekend.

Dragging my feet..

Between all of this stress of school and work I wonder how a full time student is supposed to manage getting by just fine..on top of that my roommates have tennis full time, yet they are still on task and ready to graduate. One of my roommates has tennis full time, and takes up to 22 credit hours the past two semesters, and is my age, and ready to graduate this May. College is tough, and its up to us to be in control, like I said in the above post. It's the end of the semester that really stresses me out, along with the non-stop chaos that is always happening in my house. How will I ever get through?

What it is like.

As a college student, I find myself always being busy...whether I'm at school, working, or sleeping. Yes sleeping keeps a person busy. I have discovered that being a student at IPFW has proven how lazy a person can be. Because I'm attending a local university, and I'm so close to home (literally 2 minutes away) I have slipt into a coma of procrastination. But this is probably not just me, many other students out there, such as my roommates who are always busy with the IPFW Tennis Team, I have a mild case of procrastination compared to them. My daily life at IPFW consists of class everday from 11-1150, with the exception of Wednesdays and Fridays where I go until 1:00. I find that if I keep myself motivated, I'll continue on with my school work but it is very easy to fall back with the blink of an eye. For most students at IPFW their daily life is probably similar to mine, minus living in a house with 6 guys, we school, work, and sleep. What else is there too it?

We are who we are..

The college campus of IPFW has thousands of students that walk upon its concreat soil everday. Because IPFW is a campus that most students commute to, there is so little that we know or realize about each other. Now that we are all out of highschool, and moving on into the real world, many of us go everyday without notice of one another becuase we are dragging our feet to even come to class in the first place...So what is the daily life of an IPFW student like? What are their ambitions and goals? Why did they chose IPFW for their college education? Even outside of school, which is my main focus, what are the things we do as college students, when were not attending class, everyone is different so lets dig deep and find out what people are like..we can start with me in the next post :)
